Our Mission
At Kickin’ Childhood Hunger, our mission is to engage in meaningful activities that work to eliminate childhood hunger in North Central Oklahoma and to partner with local organizations to accomplish this vital purpose.
What We Believe
Childhood hunger isn’t just statistics — it’s a reality for too many families right here in our community. When children struggle with food insecurity, they face challenges that go far beyond hunger: academic performance suffers, physical health can decline, and the emotional stress on families can be overwhelming. We believe that no child should have to go without food, and that every child deserves the fuel they need to learn, grow, and live with dignity.
How We Work Toward Our Mission
Raising Funds is our sole purpose. Kickin’ Childhood Hunger funds support local food programs that serve students during weekends, school breaks and holidays.
Collaborating with Schools and community partners who have existing hunger relief programs that we can subsidize, strengthen and expand.
Allocating 100% of donations to programs demonstrating secure budgets for food support in our region which are approved annually by our board of directors
Maintaining transparency and accountability assuring our donors and volunteers that our funds are used for children in need in our area.
Why It Matters
Oklahoma has one of the highest rates of childhood food insecurity in the nation, and too many children go home from school on weekends and breaks without enough to eat. By directing community giving toward proven local hunger-relief efforts, Kickin’ Childhood Hunger helps bridge that gap and ensure children have access to the nourishment they need to thrive.
Kickin’ Childhood Hunger was founded when concerned representatives from Kicker, Forman Harley-Davidson, Oklahoma Closing Title and Thunder Roads Magazine OK/AR reviewed the nutritional needs of children in our area. The facts were astonishing as we learned the numbers of children from the Stillwater school system who received assistance through weekend food sacks during the school year. Our group sat silently listening to the director of the local children’s food program describe how she and a small team of volunteers supplied up to 250 sacks of food for kids in need every week. That was in 2010, currently with the help of KICKIN’ Childhood Hunger that same group supplies approximately 3,000 food sacks per month to children in the Stillwater area alone. The volunteers state that it is certainly a challenge to supply the children with nutritional foods which can be eaten without preparation, on a budget that is supported solely by donations, but every year they manage to do it! The sacks contain such items as pudding cups, cereal bars, cereal, fruit cups, crackers, raisins, 8 oz entrée’s etc. All of the shopping, sorting and packaging is done by unpaid volunteers In 2026, an estimated $170,000 will be spent to supply these food sacks. The number and distribution of sacks are determined by the teachers in the schools. As our needs grow, our passion to feed more children in Payne County area also grows. We are respectfully asking for your help in funding the growth of this program. Our hope is that no child will have to go hungry.
Thank you for your consideration,
Kickin’ Childhood Hunger Board of Directors
